Why IT knowledge is MUST for all Chartered Accountants?
In earlier years, CA’s used to maintain accounts in physical form. There used to be manual ledger books and Journal registers. The stationary cost was a big cost for Chartered Accountants. With the emergence of technology and computers, most of the manual work started getting automated and with time, new software was introduced like Tally, SAP, and other accounting tools. Because of paperless work being adopted in the majority of industries, good IT skills are required for every professional.
This is the reason we have a full-fledged subject in CA course which is dedicated to upskilling students so that they have some background of IT before they start their job/practice.
In resumes, it is an added advantage if you mention the IT skills you have obtained apart from CA course.
Companies like PwC, KPMG and other big MNC’s invest a lot in in-house e-learnings for employees which are helpful to adapt to the changing business environment.
To meet the client ends, various accounting companies also develop their own tool which is customized as per user requirement.
Therefore, it is very important for a professional regardless of his/her core field to have good knowledge of IT. This includes knowledge of Microsoft office to accounting tools and understanding of basic logic.
