Is Mathematics mandatory for CA course?
To pursue Chartered Accountancy after school is a very popular career choice for most of the commerce students. It is a common saying that if you are good in math, you can clear CA easily. However, ICAI (The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India) course structure does not mention anywhere that a student with the non-math background cannot register. Being from the commerce field is no doubt an advantage but its not a condition.
As per the eligibility criteria to register for CA course, students who have passed 10+2 board examinations (any stream) or any Graduation course (from a recognized University) are eligible to register for CA course. There is no mention of mathematics as a compulsory subject.
There are subjects which include numerical case studies or questions like in Financial management, Cost accounting, Taxation and Accounting. However, math knowledge acquired till the 10th standard is sufficient to apply logic in calculations.
To summarize, even if you haven’t had mathematics subjects during 10+2 schooling phase, you are eligible to pursue CA course. But, being familiar with the subject surely helps in dealing with CA stages- Foundation, Intermediate and Final.
